Hands on Science Field Trips

Shenandoah Georgia Youth Science & Technology offers field trips. The following is a list of topics for each grade level. For more information, click on the Shenandoah GYST website link below. Note that each grade level follows a particular theme. The cost is $4.00 per member student and $6.00 for non-members.


Kindergarten The Day and Night Sky - April
First Physics of Sound - March
Second Matter Matters - October

Students will investigate the three states of matter - solids, liquids, and gases - and will explore the properties of each. They will experiment with mixtures and identify reversible and irreversible changes. They will practice metric measurement as they measure length and mass of solids and the volume and mass of liquids. They will observe different densities of liquids in an "Ocean in a Bottle", which they will create and take home. (Georgia Performance Standards #’s S2P1a, b; S2CS7c; S2CS3 a, c; S2CS5 a, c)

Haven Hills Equestrian Center

Many Different Riding Disciplines Available. English: Hunter jumpers, Jumpers, Hunters, Dressage, Combined Training, Problem solving, and basic pleasure. Basic and advanced Western. Round-penning, problem solving, and horse training.
Field Trips - "Horsey Days" for preschool age children on Thursdays. Horsey days include: Bingo walkabout, A look at teeth, A listen to their heart, Treat Feeding, Pictures taken with their favorite horse,and coloring/activity book to take home.

Noah's ArkFree Admission
Open Tues-Sat. Noon-3pm

Noah's Ark is an outdoor facility that provides wildlife rehabilitation services. Enjoy a self-guided tour as you see exotic animals in as natural a habitat as possible. Admission is free, however donations are accepted. The Animal Habitat is open throughout the year, except on major holidays. Please call before visiting, they occasionally close due to weather. Olympia Gymnastics Center

Panola Mountain State Park

This State Park was created to protect a 100-acre granite monadnock (mountain) often compared to Stone Mountain and Arabia Mountain. Hikers can explore on their own or enjoy a ranger guided tour. Children especially enjoy the interpretive center with animal exhibits. Pets are not allowed on most trails. Bicycles are allowed only on the paved PATH trail. The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History has three permanent collections. Exhibits include a glimpse into the daily lives of soldiers during the Civil War; a reproduction of a turn-of-the-century locomotive factory; and an exciting depiction of the Civil War's Great Locomotive Chase.
